We build both full flagstone walkways and natural stepping-stone paths, depending on the look, budget, and traffic the path needs to handle — a main entry walkway is a different build than a garden path.
Joints between stones are finished with sand or polymeric jointing sand (we use Gator Dust for wider, irregular flagstone joints), which locks stones in place without the maintenance a mortared joint requires in freeze-thaw conditions.
Pathways are graded and set on a proper base so they don't heave, shift, or pool water after the first hard winter — the same base-prep standard we use under every patio and wall.
We design pathways as part of the whole property, not in isolation — connecting a driveway to an entry, an entry to a patio, or a patio out to a fire pit or garden space, so the yard reads as one finished design.

What's the difference between a stepping-stone path and a full flagstone walkway?
Stepping stones are individual flagstones set with gaps between them, typically for lighter-traffic garden paths. A full flagstone walkway is a continuous fitted surface, better suited for a main entry or high-traffic route.
Do you use mortar between the stones?
Most pathways are jointed with sand or polymeric sand rather than mortar, which holds up better through Colorado's freeze-thaw cycle and is easier to maintain over time.
Can a pathway be built on a slope?
Yes — on steeper routes we'll typically integrate stone steps into the path rather than forcing a straight walkway up a grade it isn't suited for.
How wide should a walkway be?
It depends on use — a main entry walkway is usually wider to allow two people to walk side by side, while a garden path can be narrower. We'll talk through the right width for your specific route.
