Planting Built for Altitude, Not Against It.

Boulder-bordered beds, native trees, and drought-adapted shrubs and perennials, selected and placed for your site's elevation, exposure, and wildfire risk — not a generic nursery plan.

Planting & Tree Design

Planting Chosen for This Elevation, Not Just This Yard.

Plants that thrive at 6,000 feet in the front range look nothing like what survives at 8,500 feet in Woodland Park or Divide. A planting plan built for the wrong elevation struggles from year one — ours are built around what actually holds up here.

We select native and drought-adapted trees, shrubs, and perennials for your site's specific exposure, soil, and wind — Colorado blue spruce, aspen, potentilla, and Russian sage are chosen because they perform at altitude, not because they're familiar.

Beds are set into boulder borders with mulch or decorative rock, and dry creek beds are worked in where they help manage runoff — so the planting reads as part of the hillside instead of a flat bed dropped onto it.

Plant placement and species selection also account for wildfire-conscious defensible space near structures, without giving up a lush, layered look further out in the yard.

Planting is designed in context with the rest of your property — tying into a boulder retaining wall, a flagstone patio, or a stone pathway — so new beds look like they've always belonged there.

The Process

How High Point Plans a Planting Bed.

01

Site Walk & Design

We walk the site, read the sun, wind, and drainage, and select species built for that exact spot.

02

Bed Preparation

Boulder borders are set and soil is prepped so trees and shrubs establish strong root systems from day one.

03

Planting & Mulch

Trees, shrubs, and perennials are set and finished with mulch or decorative rock for moisture retention.

04

Care Walkthrough

We walk the finished beds with you and cover watering and care specific to your new plantings.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you only use native plants?

Mostly native and drought-adapted species, since they hold up best at altitude with the least maintenance — but we'll talk through options if you have something specific in mind.

What trees and shrubs do well in Teller County?

Colorado blue spruce, aspen clumps, Amur maple, and Canadian red cherry are reliable trees here, alongside shrubs and perennials like potentilla and Russian sage.

Can planting help with wildfire defensible space?

Yes — we can plan species and spacing near structures with defensible space in mind, while keeping a fuller, layered look further from the house.

How much watering do new plantings need?

New trees and shrubs need regular watering through their first one to two seasons while roots establish; we'll walk you through a schedule specific to what's planted.
